"I'm a white donor and can't always see where my own perspective and can't see how to start."

That's the reaction of a San Francisco philanthropist to a story in the San Francisco Chronicle about how he's giving away his entire fortune$125 million, to be exactto fight racism in the Bay Area.

"I'm a white donor and can't always see where my own perspective and can't see how to start," says Eric Filseth, who's giving away most of his money to the San Francisco Foundation.

The Chronicle explains that Filseth, who is white, is one of a small but growing number of "gen X and Y" philanthropists who are giving away most of their money to fight racism in the Bay Area.

In fact, of the $1.2 billion the foundation has given out in the past five years, more than $100 million has gone to groups fighting racism in the Bay Area.

Filseth, who is also white, says he's giving away most of his money to the African American community, where he says racism is "on a daily basis."
